Earlier today, my wife, Mitzi, and I attended the mass at EDSA Shrine. The priest shared his homily about the gospel for today: Being Salt to the Earth and Light to the World . Salt is usually used to create a tasty cuisine. It adds flavour to the food. Light, on the other hand, is used to light up the path whenever it is dark.
He began to share a story about a dialogue on why do the church members leave the Church? There were many answers given during that time but one answer from a lady silenced the crowd. "It's the people inside the Church.
A lot of times, it is us, who turn away other people away from the Church. When we stop trying to spend time and build relationships, when we do not accommodate other people's request, when we stop caring. The gospel today tells us that as Christians, we are to make this life a tasteful experience for us and for others. When someone who feels lost bumps into us, our encounter with them should give them a glimpse of hope and light their direction.
As Christians, we should always be a Salt to the Earth and a Light to the World. Our duty is to reflect Christ to others daily.
